We always recommend to new and existing clients that they give their newsletters a name; this gives the publication its own identity and a lot more promotional clout.
We recommend that the name of the newsletter is in the nameplate: this is the top banner on the front of a newsletter that identifies the publication. By giving your newsletter its own identity it becomes a bigger part of your charity. It is the voice of the charity and should shout, “Look what we are doing with your support”, but also “Please keep supporting us so we can keep making a difference”.
Here are some good examples of where charities have given a unique identity to their newsletter by giving it a name:
To help make these hospital charity magazines stand out, Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust use the name Impact, where Barts Charity title their newsletter Extra, in reference to the Extra support that the charity can offer to the NHS hospitals they support.
The Dogs Trust produce a number of different newsletters for different projects and teams. To give them their own identities they each have their own name, for example we love producing "Community Tails" for the community fundraising team, and "Freedom News" for the Freedom Project.
If you need help naming your charity magazine or newsletter we’d love to talk to you, please call 01603 340750 or email hello@adeptdesign.co.uk.
However big or small your project is, we’d love to see how we can help your organisation do more good.
